Reading suggestions
To get the book club started, we’ve selected the first book, Addition. That’s January’s reading covered… but what about February? March?
Perhaps there’s a classic you’ve always wanted to read, a new book by an author you love, or a new release that’s been endorsed by a like minded friend or reviewer. Make suggestions in the comments here (if you have already read something that’s been suggested, note that as well to help us in narrowing down the options).
I’ve had David Mitchell’s Black Swan Green on the bookshelf for ages but haven’t yet read it. Loved his earlier novels, and I will get around to reading this eventually, but perhaps it could work as a club read…
Am tidying the bookshelves and came across another one I’m yet to read: Clockers, by Richard Price. PopMatters has an interview with him here: http://tiny.cc/CaJTn
Anyone fancy reading ‘Solar’ by Ian Mc Ewan?
Yes! Excellent idea!
Couple of suggestions for our next book (well, after Campaign Ruby… so, I guess a future book).
1. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen has had great reviews and I have enjoyed what I’ve read of his in the past.
2. The Lessons by Naomi Alderman, which was recommended to me by somebody who described it as a “cross between Brideshead Revisited and The Secret History.
Let me know what you think!
I think either of those would be really good – I am definitley intending to read ‘Freedom’ at some stage, and I haven’t heard of ‘the Lessons’ but loved ‘Brideshead’ and ‘Secret History’, an dit’s always goodr eading a book that someone you knwo has recommended.
