BWRTD: Who’s who

Better well read than dead is an experiment in online book discussion. How will it work? Who knows…

Hi,just wondering whether people could give a little blurb about themselves here (or is it there somewhere else I’m missing?) Not wanting to get prescriptive about it but it would be nice to get a picture of my fellow readers!

Most of you reading this will already know that I am a 42 year old woman who lives in the burbs of Melbourne. I have a partner, 2 boys (6 and 8), 2 cats and 2 chooks – I feel bad for not mentioning the fish, but I feel they are probably too transient to rate a mention. My background is in occupational therapy, in particular mental health and currently I work part time in local government. Aside from reading I love cooking, eating, thinking about food, films, gardening and walking, all of which probably makes me sound about 72. At least I didn’t mention my passion for lawn bowls and windcheaters embroidered with native flora and fauna. And I spend a disproportionate amount of my life imagning what it would be like to be married to Johnny Depp and/or Sam Worthington.

Okay, so I’m also guessing that most people reading this will know this, but here goes. I am also in my early 40s (does that make it sound as though I’m trying to disguise being 44? I’m not.) and I live in an inner ‘burb of Melbourne with my partner and two cats.

Having spent far too many years trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, I’ve settled on being a teacher for the time being.

One of the reasons I’m excited about this group is that I feel I haven’t been doing as much reading as I’d like; that the instant gratification of the TV and internet has robbed me of my reading time. I sometimes combine my television and internet addiction by blogging about it, which probably just entrenches both as bad habits. I also spend too much time planning holidays which are never as long as I’d like them to be, and wasting the at-home holidays I have.
